Internet of Things

What is the Internet of Things?

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the growing network of sensors and internet-connected devices around us. In the future, we’ll see the inter-connectivity of everything from urban transport to medical devices to household appliances, smart watches and other wearable technologies, home electronics and appliances, cars and heart monitoring implants.

We’re already seeing this happen in the home with applications that remotely control our heaters and air conditioners, and fridges that can change temperature to match what’s happening outside. Imagine the possibilities of what can be explored.

To tap into this growing sensory network, Australia needs qualified engineers who are able to think intuitively to solve problems while looking through a lens of engineering and design. JCU’s ‘Electronic Systems & Internet of Things’ is an innovative program that combines traditional engineering with this high-tech outlook and represents the first program of its kind in Australia.
