James Cook University’s Bachelor of Exercise Physiology (Clinical) meets the Exercise and Sports Science Australia standards for Exercise Science membership and Exercise Physiology Accreditation.

On successful completion of the course, the graduate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate broad and coherent theoretical and technical knowledge and skills, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts, in the disciplines of clinical exercise physiology and sport and exercise science

  • Critically review, analyse, synthesise and apply evidence in clinical exercise physiology and sport and exercise science practice, across a range of social, personal, economic and environmental contexts

  • Assess health status and formulate, implement and critically evaluate sustainable management plans to promote and optimise the health and welfare of apparently healthy individuals and/or populations and those who present with acute or chronic health conditions

  • Communicate clearly and coherently through well-developed English language and numeracy proficiency, appropriate for graduate entry into the clinical exercise physiology and sport and exercise science workforces

  • Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour, clinical reasoning and sound judgement in problem solving and decision making, in the provision of client-centred practice that is contemporary, evidence-based, legal, ethical, safe and culturally sensitive

  • Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes, in order to plan and implement ongoing personal and professional development needs

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

48 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 20 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 18 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 3 or 4. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will not be applied for non-university study or work experience.

Students will normally be required to have an overall grade point average of 5.0 (i.e. credit average) across their undergraduate degree and/or a grade point average of 5.0 in the third year of their undergraduate degree, with credits or better in specific discipline areas.  A minimum of a pass grade in a basic statistics subject is also required.
