Graduate Certificate of Conflict Management and Resolution
The JCU Graduate Certificate in Conflict Management and Resolution is a unique postgraduate course that will provide you with the skills and knowledge to analyse, manage and resolve conflicts in a range of settings. As a practice-orientated and academically-grounded course, you will have the opportunity to engage with authentic conflict scenarios whilst learning from leading practitioners in the field. Whether your aim is to improve your own conflict skills as an individual or leader, understand how you can support your organisation to be more effective and harmonious or to build a rewarding career in conflict management and resolution, this is the course for you.
This course can also lead you into the Master of Conflict Management and Resolution if you choose to further your studies.
In addition to postgraduate courses, JCU also offers a series of Conflict Management and Resolution Professional Development Workshops. These workshops provide you with the opportunity to explore and develop skills in a range of conflict management and resolution topics. Workshops are conveniently held over weekends at our Townsville City Campus and our training is recognised for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points by many organisations and professional associations.

You can choose to study online*, on-campus (which involves participation in one or two intensive workshops held over a weekend as well as online lectures and engagement through the study period) or a combination of both.

Start your journey towards your Masters
Students who complete the Graduate Certificate may be eligible for entry into the Master of Conflict Management and Resolution (MCMR) or joint MCRM/MBA degrees, and may be granted advanced standing for all subjects completed under the Graduate Certificate. Become professionally accredited: Subjects within this course can lead to accreditation as a mediator under the Australian National Mediator Accreditation System and/or accreditation as a REAL Conflict Coach through Conflict Coaching International.

*Due to accreditation requirements there are some subjects that are only available internally (i.e. you must attend the face-to-face workshops):
- LB5534 Foundations of Mediation and LB5518 Advanced Mediation – for accreditation as a mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation Scheme.
- LB5527 Conflict Coaching – for accreditation as a REAL Conflict Coach through Conflict Coaching International.
Through this course you will explore practical conflict management and resolution (CMR) skills that you can apply as a leader in your current role, to further your career or to begin a new career. You will be taught by experts who are leaders in their fields, and may have the opportunity to gain practical experience with local or international organisations through JCU’s extensive industry linkages.
To complete our Graduate Certificate, you are required to complete 4 subjects (12 credit points) which consists of two core subjects and two electives. The core subjects you will study are:

Most CMR subjects can be studied either internally (this involves attending an intensive workshop in Townsville in addition to studying online) or externally (this means all studies will be completed online). Most of our intensive workshops are delivered over a three day period and are conveniently offered across a weekend (Friday to Sunday) to allow students with work and family commitments or travel requirements, to attend. We encourage all students to attend some of the workshops in our program as feedback captured from students suggests that they are an excellent study experience. That said, if you do live far away and cannot manage to travel to Townsville, please be assured that you will be able to complete your Graduate Certificate online and our lecturers work hard to ensure all students feel engaged and part of the CMR program community.

Professional Accreditation Status
One subject within this course is accredited by LEADR (or any other Recognised Mediator Accreditation Body) - LB5501 Facilitative Mediation Practice. This subject covers the education and training requirements of the National Mediator Accreditation Standards - to get accredited, students must also pass the competency-based assessment (Mediation Accreditation Workshop, professional development (this is not part of the JCU subject).
One subject is also accredited by Conflict Coaching International - LB5527 Conflict Coaching. This subject covers the education and training requirements for accreditation as a REAL Conflict Coach through Conflict Coaching International. Students also need to complete a portfolio and a video-recorded competency-based assessment (this is not part of the JCU subject).
Tropical Environments and Societies
Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree from this or another university; or
Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies as equivalent to the above.
Minimum English language proficiency requirements
Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Supplementary exam for final subject
A student who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject, may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.
Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Credit and Articulation policy and associated procedures.
6 credit points
Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.
Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course.
Advanced standing will not be granted for undergraduate studies or for work experience that is used to gain admission to the course.
