Gain advanced skills in investigating and managing tropical diseases and disease outbreaks, including emerging and re-emerging diseases and zoonoses. You will have an improved understanding of food security and public health issue in tropical environments, as well as practical knowledge of tropical infectious diseases and their prevention and control.
Learn advanced methods of utilising animal resources in tropical, subtropical, and similar agro-ecological environments. Focus on the health and productivity of livestock and gain advanced knowledge in veterinary public health, epidemiology, pathology, and infectious diseases of livestock.

A Graduate Certificate of Tropical Veterinary Science gives veterinarians the opportunity to upskill and increase their knowledge in tropical veterinary diseases and their diagnosis, prevention and control.
You will have the skills to advance your career within the veterinary profession or to better equip yourself to practice in tropical environments.
The course is particularly suited to veterinarians working in government veterinary services, herd health and aquaculture, or who have a general interest in tropical veterinary medicine.
This course leads into the Graduate Diploma of Tropical Veterinary Science.

Admission Requirements
Course pre-requisites | Completion of an AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Science; or Completion of qualifications recognised as equivalent to the above. |
Minimum English language proficiency requirements | Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy. |
Additional selection requirements | Information published by JCU or otherwise made available to students when applying, may specify additional criteria to be considered in ranking applicants in order of merit if the number of applications exceeds a quota or other limit on the places made available for the course. Information provided by applicants during the application process and any other information obtained by JCU in the application process may be used by JCU to rank applicants in order of merit by reference to those additional criteria. |
Post admission requirements | Q Fever immunisation: Students must provide evidence of being immune to Q Fever within the first teaching period of their studies. Students who are not immune to Q fever will not be permitted on-site at some facilities and consequently this may result in their inability to complete the requirements of the course as accredited by the relevant professional accrediting body. If a student has not complied with the above requirement by the last day of the first teaching period of their studies, their enrolment will be terminated immediately. |
