Membership Levels and Benefits 2016

EGRU Membership - Why Join?

Membership of EGRU provides opportunities for geologists to interact with a dynamic team of researchers working on mineralisation projects in world-class terranes across several continents, including Australia, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Member companies are welcome to network with EGRU staff and students to explore the opportunities for collaborative research and focused training, and to become engaged with geoscience researchers involved in developing new data and concepts directed at discovering and understanding mineral deposits.
Other benefits to EGRU members include substantially discounted fees for EGRU workshops and short courses, which focus on professional training in applied geoscience skills.

While EGRU researchers are involved in projects around the world, there is also a strong local focus. In north Queensland EGRU has active research and training programs in the north-western Cloncurry – Mt Isa districts and in the north-east Paleozoic intrusive and volcanic terranes.  Research staff and postgraduate students are engaged in research projects aimed at defining the characteristics and settings of metal deposits in the regions, and in unravelling the structural and paragenetic history of ore mineralization. In the north-east, a team of researchers working on a collaborative project with government and industry aims to characterize and assess the prospectivity of intrusion-related hydrothermal minerals systems, including epithermal, porphyry and skarn systems.

In north-west Queensland, research projects are focusing on structures, breccias, mineralisation and alteration associated with IOCG deposits.

For geologists in companies working in north-east Queensland, EGRU membership provides an opportunity to interact with researchers working in their backyards.

EGRU also offers field-based training in the Cloncurry region.  Field workshops focus on the regional geology and mineralization, and on the development of strategic geological skills.  Recent workshops, held in Cloncurry in 2015 and 2016, brought together industry geologists, researchers, students and consultants with a keen interest in the mineralization in the region.  During technical sessions and debates over core trays and mine exposures, delegates enthusiastically discussed the current understanding of mineralization styles, characteristics, settings, and exploration techniques – and developed concepts for future research.

In addition, EGRU provides training in field skills, with an intensive 8-day field course in the Cloncurry area offered to a limited number of participants every two years.  The course offers delegates the opportunity to develop and enhance exploration-related field skills in deformed and altered rocks.  The course includes surface mapping of contacts, alteration zones and structures, with surface data integrated with paragenetic and exploration models.

Overviews of several EGRU research projects in Australia and overseas are included in recent issues of the EGRU newsletter.
