Unfortunately, due to recent developments associated with COVID-19 we have postponed this workshop. Our plan is to reschedule the workshop for 2021 and the new schedule will be available later this year.

The Economic Geology Research Centre (EGRU) at James Cook University, in association with the Geological Survey of Queensland are hosting the second workshop on the Minerals Systems of the Mount Isa Inlier, in Cloncurry.  
This is the fourth in the series of workshops that aim to bring together academia and industry for a series of technical talks, from invited speakers, to showcase the diverse deposits of the region.

This workshop will include:

  • 2 days of technical sessions
    • presentations by invited speakers
  • 2 x one day field trips (schedule/locations subject to change)
    • Day 1 Tick Hill AU deposit
    • Day 2 Elaine Dorothy and Mt Colin Cu-Au deposits
  • viewing of drill core from various deposits in the region

Further Information

Transport - updated 09 march 2020

Transport will be provided on the following dates only:

  • Monday 11th May: Mount Isa to Cloncurry - A bus will depart Mount Isa Airport after the arrival of the morning Brisbane flight and the evening Brisbane and Townsville flights.

At the conclusion of the workshop sessions:

  • Thursday 14th May: (Morning only, 6 am departure): Cloncurry to Mount Isa 

At the conclusion of the field trip:

  • Friday 15th May: participants will arrive at Mount Isa Airport by 4.30 pm to connect with the evening departure flights to Townsville and Brisbane.

Important Note: Field trips require all participants to supply their own safety clothing – long sleeve shirt, long pants, boots/ shoes (with steel caps if visiting a mine site) and sun hat. Those without the correct safety/field gear will not be able to attend the field trip. 
Hard hats, safety glasses and high visibility vests, if required, can be supplied by EGRU.

Cancellation Policy

Delegate Registration and Field Trips

EGRU reserves the right to cancel or reschedule  the Mineral Systems of the Mount Isa Inlier workshop or associated field trips if minimum numbers are not registered by :

  • Thursday 19 March 2020

If a delegate cancels a registration for the workshop or the field trips, there will be a full refund of the registration fees for cancellations on or before:

  • Thursday 19 March 2020

Fees will not be refunded after Thursday 19 March 2020, but registration can be transferred to an alternative delegate.

EGRU is not responsible for cancellation or re-booking fees incurred by registrants that are imposed by airlines, accommodation venues or other entities as a result of the any courses being cancelled or rescheduled.

Cancellations will only be accepted by email to judith.botting@jcu.edu.au
