Investiture of Chancellor, Professor Ngiare Brown

On 1 June 2023, James Cook University celebrated a significant moment during National Reconciliation Week. The University inaugurated the sixth Chancellor, Professor Ngiare Brown, in a formal Investiture Ceremony. This momentous occasion took place on the lawns of the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library at JCU's Bebegu Yumba Campus in Townsville.

The event attracted numerous esteemed guests, including Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, and the Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. University leaders, industry professionals, staff, students, and members of the community were also present to witness this historic event.

Professor Brown's investiture as Chancellor is a significant milestone for JCU. Not only is she the first woman to hold the position, but she also holds the distinction of being the first Indigenous individual appointed to such a role in any university in Queensland.
