Estate Hazard Reduction Burning on JCU Bebegu Yumba Campus, Douglas

Hazard Reduction Burning on JCU Bebegu Yumba Campus, Douglas

Please be aware that Rangewood Rural Fire Service will be undertaking our annual controlled hazard reduction burn operation at JCU on Saturday, 24July, as part of a Rural Fire Service Queensland regional training exercise. The process will start around 10:30am and last most of the day.

We carry out a controlled burn on parts of the campus each year to reduce the risk of wild fire threatening infrastructure as the dry season intensifies.

During this time we ask people on campus to be mindful of smoke and keep doors and windows closed where possible and follow the instructions of the emergency services that will be on site. If you are driving on campus, please be aware of possible smoke hazards. Warning signs will be in place as required.

Anyone who may be adversely affected by these conditions should take appropriate personal precautions.

We will also be closing the JCU walking trail as a precautionary measure.
