Subject Coordinator Advanced Workshop

Townsville, Cairns

When: 28 May 18, 9am -- 12pm

The Advanced workshop builds on the foundation of the Essentials modules in order to more deeply support Subject Coordinators in learning, teaching and assessment design.

In 2018, the Subject Coordinator Advanced Workshop comprises 2 sessions:

  • Session 1 = Core workshop: Curriculum, assessment and rubric design
  • Session 2 = Elective breakout sessions:
    • Option 1: Embedding the assessment of communication skills
    • Option 2: Inherent requirements, reasonable adjustments and Inclusive Learning Plans
    • Option 3: Engaging in data driven reform: Learning Analytics

In particular, the workshop will support Subject Coordinators to:

  1. Review subject learning outcomes and quality of assessment design;
  2. Discuss key considerations in generating assessment criteria–standards rubrics;
  3. Identify subject communication skills and apply key strategies to evaluate learning outcomes, assessment tasks and criteria;
  4. Discuss key considerations in meeting University requirements to support students with a disability/health condition, including the appropriate application of inherent requirements and implementation of reasonable adjustments;
  5. Review and monitor student success and activity trends using Learning Analytics reports, as well as evaluate student interaction and usefulness of assessment, content and tools items in a LearnJCU subject.

Who should attend: All new Subject Coordinators and then every 3 years, but Coordinators are encouraged to attend more frequently because programming will always reflect new developments.

When: Monday 28 May 2018 from 9:00AM - 12:00PM (Please arrive by 8:50AM for a prompt 9:00AM start)

Because of the hands on nature of the breakout sessions, we are offering staff from other / remote locations the opportunity to participate in the Core workshop only via a virtual meeting room (VMR). Please note that during March, the current Virtual Meeting Room (VMR) services will be replaced by Zoom video conferencing across all JCU campus locations. All staff and students at JCU will be issued with a Zoom account. Further information, including your meeting ID, will be provided here as it becomes available.

Please register via the online registration form to attend this workshop. You will need to select the Subject Coordinator Advanced Workshop with the Option you would like to attend being: Option 1, 2 or 3.

If you plan to participate via the virtual meeting room option, please select Option 4 and add a comment in the "other details" field identifying that you will be attending via VMR and your location, ie VMR from Mackay, Mt Isa etc. If we have significant numbers from any one rural location, we will consider booking a room on your campus to facilitate the connection.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or other mobile device to these sessions. Materials for all sessions will be provided electronically, or by hard copy on request.

Please advise us of any special dietary requirements to assist in catering for morning tea.
