World Science Festival Brisbane Student Day


When: 8 March 19, 10am -- 1pm

Where: At James Cook University
Building 142 - The Science Place, Townsville Campus

James Cook University is proud to be a Community Partner of the 2019 World Science Festival Brisbane and host a Student Day on our Townsville campus at The Science Place.

The Student Day event will feature the Future Careers in Science presented by Karl Kruszelnicki and Cool Jobs presentations.


Suitable for students from grade 5 and up.  All presentations and activities are free of charge.

Cool Jobs Presentations | 10am – 11am

The festival’s ever-popular Cool Jobs is back to bring you face-to-face with amazing scientists doing amazing jobs.

Learn what it takes to do some of the coolest jobs on earth and how these people inspire the world to learn and get excited about science.

This event, normally valued at $5 per student, is brought to you free of charge thanks to JCU.

JCU Displays and Activities | 11am – 11.30am

JCU’s College of Science and Engineering will have interactive displays and activities available for students to enjoy and engage with.

Future Careers in Science: with Dr Karl | 11.30am – 1pm

Science is probably the best possible ‘mental toolbox’ that you can have, enabling you to change your career many times if desired.

Dr Karl will discuss future careers in Genetics, Engineering, basic Physics, Computer Science and the big one – your environment.

Part science, part career guidance, part entertainment, and all fun. Bring your burning science questions for the Q&A!

This event, normally valued at $5 per student, is brought to you free of charge thanks to JCU.

Schools are encouraged to register their interest by completing the QTIX School Group Booking Request form

Free Transport

Schools located in Burdekin, Charters Towers and Hinchinbrook Local Government Areas are eligible for free bus transport thanks to James Cook University.

Please include transport requirements in the ‘additional comments’ section of the QTIX School Group Booking Request form.
