Building 18 - Eddie Koiki Mabo Library, Townsville Campus
Discover more about the important connection between Eddie Koiki Mabo and JCU in this permanent exhibition.
Eddie Mabo had an ongoing relationship with JCU during his lifetime, and the significance of his life and the landmark Mabo Court case has been recognized by the University in a variety of ways.
The display will be created as a timeline, highlighting the key dates and events that cover Eddie Mabo’s life and the connection with JCU. The timeline will include events from Mabo’s personal life and story, such as the Mabo case, as well as incorporating history and building of the JCU library (where the display will be installed) and the renaming of the building as the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library.
This exhibition is targeted at both university students and staff, as well as other members of the community. In particular, the display will be relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors for the connection to culture and country portrayed through the history and actions of Eddie Mabo.
