About this event
Explore the future of the tourism industry with JCU Inspiration on Tap. Find out how JCU’s Dr Denis Tolkach is using graduate insights to understand factors affecting labour shortages in tourism and hospitality, and learn why JCU PhD Candidate Steve Schwartz is investigating ways to reduce the risk involved in wilderness tourism in the Australian bush.
Insights into labour shortages in tourism, hospitality and events
Some careers have all the appeal. But could the glitz and glamour of tourism, hospitality and events draw graduates to some professional roles over others? Dr Denis Tolkach has reviewed the education, career development and perceptions of three universities’ graduates to gain insight into potential labour shortages in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Preventing lost wilderness events
Exploring Australia’s wilderness may be fun, but it holds inherent risk. PhD Candidate Steve Schwartz is studying ‘lost wilderness experiences’ to develop ways of reducing their frequency as well as the trauma associated with these experiences. Steve’s work may hold the key to making wilderness tourism safer and reducing the social and economic impacts of lost person incidents for both consumers and stakeholders.
Nibbles will be provided on the evening.
