Spreading the Word: Reading, Writing and Publishing in and from FNQ

Could a Cairns writer make it in the Big Apple? Embark on a literary journey as JCU Associate Professor Roger Osborne shares how FNQ-born writer, Joan Colebrook (1910 – 1991), worked with a famous New York editor to see her work published in the USA. Hear Joan’s inspiring story as you learn about the careers of local writers and their opportunities for publication locally, nationally, and internationally.

Addressing the Crisis: Oral cancer research in Queensland

Professor Peter Thomson is on a mission to address a growing healthcare crisis. Although oral cancers can be easily identified and cured in the early stages of development, a JCU study analysing 36 years of data has revealed significant increases in both diagnoses and fatalities. Find out how raising awareness and delivering targeted, preventive strategies to high-risk populations are essential for turning the tide on oral cancers.

Pizza will be provided on the evening.
