Learn to teach coding and robotics in the Early Years

Cairns , City Campus

When: 29 July 17

21st century educators and teachers need practical strategies to introduce the ‘new’ literacy of coding in the Early Years. It’s critical that young children enjoy playful digital learning experiences that expose them to coding and robotics for two key reasons:

  • First, children have a right to play, relax and enjoy a range of cultural artefacts, including digital ones.
  • Second, proficiency with coding is an increasingly important digital literacy skill.

This professional development workshop introduces EC educators to play-based digital learning (PBDL). PBDL is a simple and exciting way to introduce coding and robotics into Early Years settings.  PBDL is also an appropriate, scaffolded and purposeful way of familiarising young learners with digital hardware and software in play-based settings. In this workshop, you will learn how to incorporate the PBDL approach in a fun way as you introduce the literacy of coding and robotics to your youngest learners.

You will specifically learn about the following topics:

  • Workshop 1: Coding-the new literacy for early childhood
  • Workshop 2: Play-based digital learning with robots
  • Workshop 3: Purposeful play through coding & robotics

The fee for the 1-day workshop is $250 including GST
