James Cook University will play host to the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships from 5 - 10 September where the world's best Mountain Bike riders conquer Cairns. The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships is proudly presented by Shimano, in conjunction with Mountain Bike Australia, Cycling Australia, Tropical North Queensland and James Cook University.
Athletes from around the globe will compete for the rainbow jersey of UCI World Champion in Junior and Elite categories for DHI, and Junior, Under-23 and Elite categories for XCO. Cairns also hosted rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano in 2014 and 2016.
Come cheer on JCU students Tracey Hannah and Katie Lawlor as they represent Australia in the Elite Women Downhill team.
The event will be held in the suburb of Smithfield within the municipality of Cairns Regional Council (CRC) and in Smithfield Conservation Park, managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPW) as well as land owned by James Cook University.
