Self‐awareness and critical reflection on the path to transformative learning: Some thoughts from social work
Presented by Mr Peter Jones - Senior Lecturer, Social Work & Human Services – College of Arts, Society and Education
‘Transformation’ has become an overused term that renders it essentially meaningless. Yet truly transformative learning experiences that involve a profound shift in the learner’s worldview remain an interesting and significant aspect of the higher education experience, at least for some students.
In this talk Peter draws on his experience as a social work educator to highlight the role of self‐awareness and critical reflection as important precursors to transformative learning.
Using examples of teaching and assessment practices from within the social work discipline, an argument will be made that individual transformation is possible
Refreshments will be served following the lecture. This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome.
