James Cook University will play host to the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on
23 & 24 April where the world's best Mountain Bike riders conquer Cairns. The 2016 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is proudly presented by Shimano, in conjunction with Mountain Bike Australia, Cycling Australia, Tropical North Queensland and James Cook University.
The Cairns World Cup will feature 120 riders in the XCO competition from 35 nations and 148 riders from 23 nations in the DHI competition and will see over 20,000 people attend the event. The event schedule features two days of competition and with additional days set aside for training and practice sessions. It features Cross Country (XCO) competition and also Downhill (DHI) competition.
The 2016 round is the second of three international MTB events set to take place on the site in what will be the rehersal for the 2017 UCI MTB World Championships. The event will be held in the suburb of Smithfield within the municipality of Cairns Regional Council (CRC) and in Smithfield Regional Park, managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPW) as well as land owned by James Cook University.
