Your existing VET or TAFE qualification can fast-track you through your chosen JCU degree.
Whether you want to stay within the same career, or re-train for different opportunities, your previous qualifications and work experience can help you get there.
Pathway programs
JCU offers academic and personal support to help our students reach their study goals. If it's been a while since you've studied, a JCU pathway program could help get you on track to move up to a degree.
We also offer short courses and self-help resources to upskill in maths, academic writing, time management and so much more.
Applying to study at JCU
Once you’ve decided which course you wish to study, you can start the application process. Make sure you’ve checked the entry requirements for your course.
If you have any questions along the way, the JCU team is here to help.
Have your qualifications and experience assessed
You can apply to have your qualifications and experience assessed and used to fast-track your JCU degree, saving you time and money:
- If you have studied at another higher education provider such as a TAFE or university, in Australia or overseas
- or you have work experience.
Use the JCU credit calculator and Recognition of Prior Learning form to see how to apply to transfer your study and work history across to JCU. Once you have applied for your JCU course, you can then submit your application for credit.
Apply for your course
If you're new to JCU and are looking at studying a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree you can apply online through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). This application includes a section where you can list your existing qualifications.
Applications for Semester 1 (February intake) open in August of the previous year. Find out more.
Many courses accept enrolment in Semester 2 (July intake). Mid-year applications close in July, for immediate start.
Apply directly to JCU.

Use the JCU credit calculator and Recognition of Prior Learning form to apply for credit. Once you are accepted into your course, the enrolment team will assess your application.
If you have any questions about applying for credit, book a call with a JCU advisor.
Congratulations! Once your application is assessed and approved you'll receive an offer via email. For mature students, this can be in less than two weeks for many courses.
Contact us if you have any questions
