Higher Education Participation & Partnership Programme (HEPPP)

Higher Education Participation & Partnership Programme (HEPPP)

Federal Government's Higher Education Participation and Partnership Programme (HEPPP) aims to ensure that Australians from low Socio-Economic-Status (SES) backgrounds who have the ability to study at university have the opportunity to do so. The Federal Government provides funding to assist universities to undertake activities and implement strategies that improve access to undergraduate courses for people from low SES backgrounds, as well as improving the retention and completion rates of those students.

JCU's HEPP program

JCU's HEPPP program is linked to the University’s Access, Participation and Success Plan 2015-2017 which aims to raise aspirations and build capacity for low SES, low SES and indigenous and regional and remote students, students with a disability, females in non-traditional fields and students from non-English speaking backgrounds to access and participate in higher education.

The program provides a range of interactive activities for students from years 6-12 designed to:

  • Build confidence
  • Learn positive self-esteem strategies
  • Develop tools for overcoming obstacles and achieving goals
  • Explore future study and work opportunities
  • Understand available financial supports
  • Identify the key support people who can help them achieve their post high school goals
