Visa requirements

Admitted exchange students must apply for a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa. Upon admission to the University, GEO will prepare and mail an official Welcome Packet to the exchange coordinator at your home university. The Welcome Packet will include your original acceptance letter and Form DS-2019 or "Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status". You will need both documents to apply for your visa. Upon receipt of your Welcome Packet, you may begin the process of obtaining your J-1 visa.

Instructions for how to obtain your visa are available for download. This document outlines the main steps in the visa application process, but we strongly encourage students to visit the US Department of State Exchange Visitor Program Participant webpage for detailed instructions and a helpful list of FAQs.
