About the University

The Universidad de La Sabana, is a Colombian private higher education institution founded in 1979. It is located in the municipality of Chía, 7 km north of Bogotá. The university has been given the High Quality Institutional Accreditation by the National Ministry of Education. La Sabana has 51 research groups classified by Colciencias, the government office that certifies the quality of research groups in Colombian universities. The university currently runs programmes 23 undergraduate programmes, 46 specialisation programmes, 49 Masters programmes and 4 doctoral programmes.

Cundinamarca is a region in central Colombia surrounding the country’s sprawling, high-altitude capital, Bogotá. La Candelaria, the city’s cobblestoned center, features colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical performance hall Teatro Colón and the 17th century Iglesia de San Francisco. It's also home to the Museo Botero, showcasing Fernando Botero's art, and the Museo del Oro, with pre-Columbian gold pieces.

Housing options are renting a room (almost impossible for foreigners), hotel or hostel. La Sabana offers assistance to students in finding accommodation.

Cost of living

Living expenses vary depending on personal needs. Depending on the type of accommodation and distance from campus, cost of living in Bogota would vary from USD 900-1,200 per month.

Visa requirements

Students coming from a country with which there is a visa exemption agreement (Australia) and for under 90 days have to enter the country with the entry permit PIP2 which will be given at the airport. After the 90 days, the student must apply for a PTP2 in Bogotá. After 90 days, they can renew their permission for another 90 days. International Office at La Sabana will guide students through this process.

Other information

Scholarships are sometimes available for international students. (USD 2000) for food, accommodation and transport. La Sabana also offers free Spanish lessons to all exchange students.
