Biography

Allison Craven has been elected for a four-year term, beginning in May 2018. Allison is Associate Professor of Screen Studies and English in the College of Arts, Society and Education. She joined JCU in 2004 and currently teaches film, literature and Arts core curriculum, and also contributes to Creative Arts and Women’s Studies courses. She has performed extensive service on JCU’s Academic Board (2007-2009) and as Bachelor of Arts Course Coordinator (2010-2015). Externally, she is Treasurer for the Screen Studies Association of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand (SSAAANZ).

Allison originates from Brisbane and has tutored and lectured in a number of Australian universities since 1991, and for three years was seconded as Arts Faculty Coordinator at Monash University Malaysia (2001-2004) before joining JCU. In 2012, she participated in the European Union-funded Border Crossings Staff Exchange at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, and she has been a visiting scholar in the University of Sohar in Oman. Her research interests in fairy tale and gothic narrative, and on Australian film and cinema have resulted in authorship of two books: Fairy Tale Interrupted: Feminism, Masculinity and Wonder Cinema (2017); and Finding Queensland in Australian Cinema (2016).
