ESRI

ESRI has more than 100 online courses available via its website (the ESRI Virtual Campus). The ArcGIS software licence between ESRI and JCU will allow (almost) unlimited access to these courses.

ESRI’s ArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) that facilitates the: creation of maps; compilation of geographic (spatial) data; analysis of spatial information; and, the management of spatial information in a database. The ESRI Virtual Campus is a web-based platform for training in the science, application, and technology of GIS.

LinkedIn Learning provides over 15,000 free online courses facilitated by industry experts across a variety of business, technology and creative topics. JCU students can access LinkedIn Learning for free by signing in with their JCU email address and JCU log-in credentials. With courses ranging from using computer software, to improving your communication, to managing teams, there is something for everyone.

Making maps in GIS: Display, data query and printing (morning session)

At the end of this session you will be able to display and query spatial data, and make a professional looking map in ArcGIS9. This software is widely used by industry and government agencies in Australia and Overseas.

Capturing field data into GIS (afternoon session)

At the end of this session you will be able to import geo-referenced field data into a GIS, and display it on widely available spatial datasets. The basics of GPS operation, downloading locations to a computer and capturing these into the GIS will be covered.
