Summary of Project

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the upcoming revolution of the Internet, which was designed predominately for human use. By contrast, IoT will be the next-generation of machine-centric Internet, which will allow human users to interact with physical objects such as handheld devices, vehicles, buildings and other items that are embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity. It is forecasted that around 20 billion devices will be connected to the IoT by 2020. Low-power wide-area (LPWA) technologies are emerging for IoT applications, because they typically enable lower costs and longer battery life, which is critical to a wide range of IoT applications. This projects involves investigating various LPWA IoT technologies and then proposing new ultra-reliable and ultra-low latency algorithms for these advanced LPWA IoT techniques.
