Summary of Project

The value of subtidal habitats, located below the low tide mark, to fish in tropical estuaries is not known, yet. These areas include timber snags, oyster reefs, sandy/mud habitats and seagrass. This study will map the extent and distribution of subtidal habitats, examine their use by fisheries using underwater video and artificial intelligence processing, and examine their structural complexity and role in the broader seascape. The student will work with green engineers, managers and industry partners that are looking to invest in major restoration projects.
