Summary of Project
Visible Light Communications (VLC) is a free space optical data communications technology that uses the visible spectrum to transmit information. VLC uses white light emitting diodes (LEDs), a modern form of lighting which is now replacing fluorescent tubes in many modern buildings. The LEDs are used as transmitters, and photodiodes as receivers. This form of data communications has attracted a lot of attention in recent years and has benefitted from advancements in solid-state lighting technology enabling a revolution in replacing fluorescent lamps or tubes with LEDs. To achieve high data rates, VLC systems employ highly spectral-efficient techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO. This project aims to develop novel massive MIMO and/or spatial modulation (SM) techniques to achieve high-speed parallel data transmission and to decode highly uncorrelated VLC-MIMO channels.
