Congratulations to Tessa Hill from the Coral Centre for her Visualise Your Thesis presentation entitled “The impact of ocean acidification on ecological processes that structure coral communities.” Tessa was JCU’s overall winner and her presentation can be found in the Online National Showcase for Visualise Your Thesis.
What is the 2nd biggest search engine in the world? Youtube. Why? We love visualisations!
And that applies to research. Having strong visuals that encapsulate and elucidate your research vastly increases the probability of your research being picked up by the media, the public and your target research audience. And digital channels open up myriad opportunities.
Visualise Your Thesis is an exciting new competition that challenges graduate researchers to present their research in a 60 second, eye-catching digital display. Using a pre-supplied template, entrants are tasked with developing a striking presentation to encapsulate their research projects in short, engaging, digital narratives. Competition submissions are judged on their visual impact, and how well the content presents the research. The digital format allows for different levels of creativity, multi-media, interactivity and interpretation and is suitable for all disciplines.
Candidates who are in earlier stages of research (have not reached confirmation/ before writing up) are welcome to enter the competition. The winner of the JCU Visualise Your Thesis competition 2018 will go on to compete in the National online showcase hosted by The University of Melbourne in October 2018.
The Visualise Your Thesis Competiton at JCU falls under the banner of "Visualise Your Research" the main difference being that only entries that have used the Visualise Your Thesis template created by the University of Melbourne, can be entered in the Visualise Your Thesis National Showcase.
