Prestige Research Scholarships

In 2018, James Cook University (JCU) is offering 10 Prestige Research Scholarships for outstanding Doctorate or Research Masters applicants. These will include five Domestic Prestige Research Scholarships and five Indigenous Prestige Scholarships.

Projects on offer

Rising Star Researcher projects

In selecting successful applicants for the JCU Prestige Scholarships, preference will be given to applicants working with one of JCU’s ‘Rising Star’ Researchers undertaking  research projects in a range of disciplines at JCU’s Townsville and Cairns campuses.

Full range of projects

Prestige Scholarships are not limited to applicants working with Rising Star researchers. The full range of available projects is also eligible for the scholarships.

About the scholarships

Domestic scholarships

The Domestic Prestige Research Scholarships will be offered to outstanding Domestic* Doctorate or Research Masters applicants on a competitive basis, to commence in 2018.

Scholarship value

The value this scholarship is $40,000** per annum for 3.5 years (received as a fortnightly tax free living allowance), as well as $10,000 one off amount to be used for project related expenses during the research. Recipients of the Scholarship will also receive leadership training, mentoring and coaching.

Indigenous Scholarships

The Indigenous Prestige Research Scholarships will be offered to eligible Doctorate or Research Masters applicants who identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, to commence in 2018.

Scholarship value

The value this scholarship is $42,000** per annum for 3.5 years (received as a fortnightly tax free living allowance), as well as $10,000 one off amount to be used for project related expenses during the research. Recipients of the Scholarship will also receive leadership training, mentoring and coaching.

*Australian/New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents.

**The base scholarship rate in 2018 is $27,082.
