Summary of Project

In Australia, Native Title Holders are permitted to hunt dugongs and green turtles in their sea county. The practice is controversial and strongly opposed by some non-Indigenous and Indigenous peoples. This project will investigate: (1) whether there is a geographical gradient in attitudes to such hunting in eastern Australia; how such attitudes are associated with ethnicity and values; (3) whether attitudes have changed since the mid-1990s when previous work was done on this topic.
