Crafting transformative governance in the Anthropocene

Summary of Project

This project examines the mobilisation of different types of power in transformative governance. Students will be at liberty to design their own research project testing a new typology of power published in 2019 in the journal Global Environmental Change. Students will be mentored by a dynamic team of talented researchers working on the governance and political dynamics of social-ecological change, in a world-class research environment.

Ideal applicants should have some training in the social sciences, with strong analytic skills, a sense of adventure, willingness to work in an exciting and challenging science-policy environment, and a desire to lead the development of governance solutions with scientific rigour and policy impact. Outstanding applicants are eligible to apply for generous top-up scholarships and project costs. There is also the opportunity to work with partner colleagues (potentially in a co-tutelle arrangement) at the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC, Sweden), Center for Ocean Solutions at Stanford University (COS, USA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN, Switzerland), WorldFish (Malaysia), the University of Queensland (Australia) and elsewhere.
