Summary of Project

Many species of bats survive in the hot humid caves of northern Australia, even though they are at the theoretical size limit at which mammals are able to regulate their physiology and body temperature. This study is designed to determine the behavioural and physiological mechanisms used by bats top survive in these environments, and to use this information to not only understand the ,mechanisms of thermal regulation in bats, but also to explore the implications of changing climate on roost availability into the future.

Key Words

bats, Chiroptera, ecophysiology, temperature regulation
