Conflict Management Training

Conflict Management Training

In this workshop, HDR candidates are introduced to some typical reasons for why conflict occurs. Special attention is paid to conflict situations that may arise during their HDR candidature, such as:

  • Candidates feel their advisor does not have enough time for them
  • Candidates and advisors have different ideas on timing, quality or quantity of the advisor’s feedback on candidates’ work
  • Candidates and advisors disagree on the authorship of publications

Candidates are provided with opportunities to increase their insights into other people's expectations, perceptions and point of view in conflict. They are also introduced to some strategies on how to manage conflict situations in general and issues arising as part of their candidate-advisor relationship. Candidates will also learn about where to find resources available at JCU to assist them in managing conflict situations and how to best use these resources.
