Enterprise Bargaining

PROGRESS TO DATE: MEETING: (6-8 March 2013)

Enterprise Bargaining negotiations are continuing constructively and productively with a solid 2 ½ day bargaining meeting held in Cairns from 6 to 8 March 2013.

Agreement was reached in principle with minor refresh made to the following clauses:

  • Superannuation

  • Salary Sacrifice

  • Shift Work

  • Intellectual Freedom

  • Code of Conduct

The below clauses were finalised after discussion and review at previous meetings:

  • Position Classification and Reclassification

  • Probation

  • Parental Leave

New agenda items for this meeting included:

Hours of Work/Overtime

Your JCU representatives raised a concern that the Agreement should reflect the genuine operating requirements of the University and are seeking to extend the current span of hours and provisions for overtime. Agreement was not reached on these matters and will be listed for further discussion at upcoming meetings.

Allowances

An updated draft clause was distributed by JCU representatives. This clause is generally agreed in principle however requires further discussion on Clinical Allowances and Competency Pay for tradespersons.

Fixed Term Employment

Your JCU representatives are seeking to reduce the number of casual appointments and provide job security for fixed term staff by providing additional fixed term categories whilst providing flexibility to the University to enable fixed term contracts externally funded to be ceased with a one (1) month notice period. This matter was discussed at length however was not agreed and will be revisited at future meetings.

Academic Workload

An updated draft clause was distributed for review by JCU representatives. JCU is seeking to introduce Teaching focused roles with up to 80% teaching component and a clinical partner that is 100% teaching or research.

This agenda item was attended by JCU Heads of School Professor Paul Dirks, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences; Professor David Low, School of Business, together with Dean of Research Professor Andrew Krockenberger and Mr Bradley Smith. Both parties contributed to a lively discussion and this item will be discussed at future meetings with further consultation to be held with staff and management.
