Microsoft Software at JCU


James Cook University (JCU) participates in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Enrolment for Education (EES) Agreement. Under the terms of this Agreement, staff members can install any of the products covered under the Agreement onto a University owned machine, without requiring individual software licenses.

Products & Licensing Restrictions under the agreement:

The main products available under the EES Agreement are:

  • Windows Operating System Upgrade (32bit & 64 bit).
    Windows 8 Enterprise version is available under the Agreement.

  • Office Professional 

  • Office for Mac (Apple)

  • Visual Studio

Software listed under Application and System Software can be installed on any University owned computer.

To install the software onto a University owned machine, contact the IT Helpdesk or log a job via the Service Now Self Service Portal.

Office 365 (O365)

Current JCU Staff and Students have access to Office 365 (O365) on up to 5 devices for FREE, while working or studying at JCU.  Accessing O365 is simple, login to www.office.com with your JCU email address and password and select 'Install Office 2016' from the button on the top right of the screen.

How do I obtain Microsoft Software that is not covered under the Microsoft EES Agreement?

The University is covered by our Microsoft Select Plus Volume Licensing Agreement for those Microsoft Products that are not in the Microsoft EES package eg Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Project. This software will still require you to purchase a software license NOTE the software is not licensed for home use.
