Service outage for Video Conferencing and AudioVisual
Times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)

When: 23rd March 2020, 11am
Clients affected: Staff and students

On the 23rd March at 11am, 'Video Conferencing and AudioVisual' has experienced a service outage. We hope to have this resolved as soon as possible, we apologise for any inconvenience.

Current status

A number of issues have been experienced with Zoom today:

  1. Zoom meetings not starting correctly, with messages seen “Please wait for the host to start the meeting” or “Invalid meeting”
  2. Some meetings dropping out around 11am
  3. Poor performance with audio and video

These issues have been experienced across the Higher Education sector in Australia, and are related to the dramatic increase in Zoom usage and network traffic (a 20-fold increase in the last month).

Our suppliers (AARNET and other Internet Service Providers including Telstra, Optus, TPG etc) are working continuously to add new network capacity. This is expected to come online over the next few days.

If anyone is experiencing (1) above, creating a new meeting typically provides a workaround.
