Obtaining OSHC

When you receive your Letter of Offer, James Cook University (JCU) will estimate the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) premium required for the anticipated student visa duration (Visa Length Cover). However, due to premium price increases implemented by the insurance provider, changes to your program duration and/or changes to your visa status, it is up to you to ensure your OSHC remains current for the full duration of your visa.

JCU establishes your initial OSHC membership on your behalf so you can meet your student visa requirements. The commencement date will initially be set as approximately 10 days prior to your course commencement. It is up to you to adjust the start date to coincide with the date you entered Australia on a student visa, and if relevant, add any family member details.

Most students are required to pay the OSHC premium together with the tuition commencement deposit upon acceptance of the JCU offer. If you are applying through a partner institution, or have an official sponsorship recognised by JCU, payment will be arranged in accordance with the relevant agreement.

JCU’s current preferred OSHC provider is Allianz Global Assistance. Shortly after your arrival at JCU, you will be directed to the Allianz Global Assistance OSHC website to order a membership card, and adjust any details if required.
