Arrival service

The James Cook International Student Support staff operates an arrival service that is provided free of charge to all newly enrolling Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS) students. The service will transport the student to their nominated/pre-arranged place of accommodation on arrival in Townsville or Cairns.

Arrival details of new AAS students will be sent to James Cook University (JCU) by the respective DFAT Posts around the world. Prior to the students’ arrival in Australia, each student will receive from JCU a Pre-Departure Kit containing important information to facilitate the students’ transition and settlement into Townsville / Cairns and James Cook University.

Orientation

On arrival in Townsville (including Cairns students), the new students will be given a letter to enable them to make their way to the JCU Student Centre. JCU staff will provide each AAS student with an arrival kit containing relevant information to help them get started with their enrolment at JCU.

JCU International staff will provide the new students with:
- Overseas Student Health Cover membership details;
- Bank account information that has been pre-organised;
- Information about the Introductory Academic Program (IAP);
- Various booklets and flyers to assist the students in their settlement into their new community.
