Canada Student Loans are offered by the Government of Canada to help students pay for post-secondary education.

The Canadian government website, CanLearn, is the best place to start. You will find information about student loans as well as student grants that may be available to you. The following information was taken from CanLearn and is provided as a guide only. In most cases, you will need to apply directly to the relevant province or territory.
Alberta
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Alberta Learning – Student Finance
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.
You may be eligible to receive two loans: one from the Government of Canada and the other from your provincial government.
You manage and repay your loans through two loan providers: the NSLSC for your Canada Student Loan (Federal), and your provincial government's student financial assistance office or their service provider for your provincial loan.
British Columbia
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Aid BC
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.
You may be eligible to receive one loan: a combination of federal and provincial student loans.
You manage and repay your student loan through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).
Manitoba
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Aid Branch – Advanced Education and Training
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.
You may be eligible to receive two loans: one from the Government of Canada and the other from your provincial government.
You manage and repay your loans through two loan providers: the NSLSC for your Canada Student Loan (Federal), and your provincial government's student financial assistance office or their service provider for your provincial loan.
New Brunswick
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Financial Services – Department of Education
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.
You may be eligible to receive one loan: a combination of federal and provincial student loans.

Newfoundland and Labrador
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Aid Division, Department of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.You may be eligible to receive one loan: a combination of federal and provincial student loans. You manage and repay your student loan through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).
Northwest Territories
You apply to your province or territory of permanent residence for student loans: Student Financial Assistance Program, Department of Education, Culture and Employment.
No Federal loans or grants are available. NWTSFA operates their own student loan program, which is partly funded by the federal government. You manage and repay your student loan to your province or territory of permanent residence: Student Financial Assistance Program, Department of Education, Culture and Employment
Nova Scotia
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Assistance Office - Department of Education.
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants. may be eligible to receive two loans: one from the Government of Canada and the other from your provincial government.
You manage and repay your loans through two loan providers: the NSLSC for your Canada Student Loan (Federal), and your provincial government's student financial assistance office or their service provider for your provincial loan: Student Assistance Office - Department of Education.
Nunavat
You apply to your province or territory of permanent residence for student loans: Financial Assistance for Nunavat Students.
No Federal loans or grants are available. Nunavat operates their own student loan program, which is partly funded by the federal government. You manage and repay your student loan to your province or territory of permanent residence: Financial Assistance for Nunavat Students.
Ontario
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Support Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants. You may be eligible to receive one loan: a combination of federal and provincial student loans. You manage and repay your student loan through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).
Prince Edward Island
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Finance Services – Department of Education.
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.You may be eligible to receive two loans: one from the Government of Canada and the other from your provincial government.You manage and repay your loans through two loan providers: the NSLSC for your Canada Student Loan (Federal), and your provincial government's student financial assistance office or their service provider for your provincial loan: Student Finance Services – Department of Education.
Québec
You apply to your province or territory of permanent residence for student loans: Student Financial Assistance, Saskatchewan Learning.
No Federal loans or grants are available. Quebec operates their own student loan program, which is partly funded by the federal government. You manage and repay your student loan to your province or territory of permanent residence: Student Financial Assistance Programs, Ministere de l’education.
Saskatchewan
Complete 1 application form and submit it to your province of permanent residence: Student Financial Assistance, Saskatchewan Learning.
You are assessed for both federal and provincial student loans and grants.You may be eligible to receive one loan: a combination of federal and provincial student loans. manage and repay your student loan through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).
Yukon Territory
You apply for a Canada Student Loan through Yukon Student Aid: Yukon Student Financial Assistance.
You are assessed for both federal and territorial grants as well as a Canada Student Loan. You manage and repay your student loan through the NSLSC .

Future and Current students
Students applying for financial aid will at some point require JCU to complete a Program Information Form and/or Confirmation of Enrolment form. JCU not only assists students with financial aid forms, we also complete the TL11a tax form (“Canadian Tuition, education and textbook certificate”), continuation of interest-free status forms, and other related forms.

Financial Aid related forms
If you have a Program Information form, Confirmation of Enrolment form or Continuation of interest free status or others to be completed by James Cook University:

You need to allow at least 5 working days for processing, especially at peak times.

Note:
- Forms will only be completed for study periods which have concluded.
- Unless otherwise stated, JCU will use the standard Study Period start/end dates. Only ‘university fees’ (tuition and SSAF) will be included, not OSHC. JCU will complete the JCU section of the form and return it to you by email. If you require a hard-copy, specify in your email.
Townsville students
The authorised officer is generally available for ‘drop-in’ visits between 10.30am – 12pm and 2pm – 3.30pm most week days, phone or email ahead if you want to be sure of availability. If these times do not suit or the matter is urgent, contact FinancialAid@jcu.edu.au or 47815507 to make an appointment.
Cairns students
The administration of forms for Canadian students is undertaken on the Townsville campus. In most cases, forms can be emailed to FinancialAid@jcu.edu.au or if you have a hardcopy form, you can drop this off to the Cairns Student Centre and the staff will arrange for the form to be sent to Townsville campus.
