It is understood that students may encounter financial difficulty at times. If so, it is essential that you discuss your situation with the Finance Officer before your account is in arrears so a payment plan can be arranged.
Depending on your situation, the following resources may be helpful:
Mecu Banking, Service Centre located in the Student Mall, JCU Douglas Campus.
Offered annually at each Hall, these bursaries are awarded primarily on hardship, academic performance and collegiality, and provide a contribution towards residential accommodation fees. George Roberts Hall offers an additional Bursary donated by Mr George Roberts CBE.
Department of Human Services
The Department of Human Service (Centrelink) offers a range of payments and services while you’re studying or training.
Fees and Financial Support
The JCU Fees and Financial Support website is full of useful information to help you keep your finances in order.
Higher Education Loan Program (HELP)
The HELP Program is a suite of loans funded by the Commonwealth Government for Australian citizens and holders of a permanent humanitarian visa.
JCU Access Fund
The JCU Access Fund could be the answer if money problems stand between you and a higher education at JCU. Reasons for financial hardship are considered in awarding these scholarships and bursaries.
There are a variety of scholarships, bursaries and prizes available to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
JCU offers students the opportunity to apply for a small loan to help with essential study-related expenses, if you can demonstrate a genuine need for financial assistance.
