Induction for Sessional Teaching Staff

Sessional Staff Induction

James Cook University sessional staff who are new to teaching or returning after more than three years are required to attend induction as part of their ongoing appointment. The program is presented as a 4-hour workshop.

The session aims to introduce you to James Cook University's Strategic Intent; our student population; your role, responsibilities and support networks; the higher education regulatory environment and internal guiding policies; learning, teaching and assessment principles; learning technologies and support; and strategies to inform and enhance your professional practice as tertiary educators.

Sessions are offered in teaching periods (TP) 1 and 2 each year, generally during O Week. Sessions are presented in person at the Cairns and Townsville campuses, and at other locations via a Virtual Meeting Room (VMR), or Zoom.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or other mobile device to these sessions. Materials for all sessions will be provided electronically, or by hard copy on request.

For catering purposes please register to attend this event. Registration is also required to assist with attendance records and the creation of Certificates of Attendance.
