Overview

The Assignment tool in LearnJCU allows staff to set up an online dropbox for the submission of assessment in LearnJCU, check submissions for originality, manage submitted documents and provide feedback using the Grade Centre.

Features

  • Electronic submission of any file type (including non-text)

  • Multiple submissions – a number of attempts or unlimited attempts can be set

  • Group assignments or individual assignments to be specified – one submission is required for the group on behalf of all members and marks given to a group submission are awarded to all students in the group

  • Associate a rubric - mark submissions using defined criteria and point values

  • Plagiarism tools – check submissions for originality using Safe Assign

  • Anonymous marking- mark with student names hidden to ensure impartiality

  • Delegated marking – share grading responsibilities with other teaching staff

Important:

Always add a Due Date when setting up an Assignment drop box – this is required to trigger notifications for students.

Q. How do I set up a Draft dropbox that includes Safe Assign originality checking?

A. When setting up your Assignment dropbox, set the Number of Attempts to Unlimited Attempts (or set your preferred number) and tick all options in the Plagiarism Tools section, in particular the “Exclude submissions from the Institutional and Global References Databases” checkbox as shown below.

To create a final version dropbox, change the Number of attempts to Single attempt and untick the“Exclude submissions from the Institutional and Global References Databases” checkbox in the Plagiarism Tools section.
