Student Experience Survey (SES)

The Student Experience Survey (SES) is the largest survey of Australian higher education students and is run on behalf of the Australian Government by the Social Research Centre.

The SES aims to give students the opportunity to talk about their experience of the institution they are enrolled in.

The results of the research are used to help higher education providers and the government gain insight into students' experiences, specifically to:

  • Monitor and improve teaching and learning in Australia
  • Assist with changes and improvements that will benefit students and aid the institutions' strategic planning

Six broad indicators are used to measure student satisfaction across various aspects of their university experience:

  1. Overall quality of educational experience
  2. Teaching quality
  3. Learner engagement
  4. Learning resources
  5. Student support
  6. Skills development

How it works

A sample of first and later year students will be selected to participate in the SES and will receive an email in July or August with a link to the SES online questionnaire.

For students, this is your chance to make your mark and have your say! Remember this is your chance to provide valuable feedback and help shape the future of tertiary education in Australia.

All feedback is confidential and will be used by universities and governments to improve the student experience by:

  • Enhancing lectures, labs and tutorials
  • Improving libraries, computer labs and student spaces
  • Recognising and rewarding good quality teaching
  • Providing information to students about university study
