JCU and the Western Sydney University are partners in the Local Global Learning Project.
Dr Kelsey Halbert PhD, BEd(Hons)
Kelsey is a lecturer in Education Curriculum and Pedagogy at JCU. Her work focuses on student and teacher agency in the school and the community. Kelsey coordinates the Service Learning for Sustainable Futures and Education for Cultural Diversity core subjects within the Bachelor of Education at JCU.
Dr Peta Salter PhD, Grad CEd, Grad BEd, BA(Hons)
Peta is also a lecturer in Education Curriculum and Pedagogy at JCU. Peta's PhD research examined the epistemological and ontological assumptions in 'Asia literate' policy in Australian education. In 2010 she co-designed established and delivered a core service learning subject that facilitates local and international mobility in the Bachelor of Education courses offered at JCU.
Professor Michael Singh PhD, BEd, DipTeach, Grad Dip Teacher-Librarian, Grad Dip Intercultural Studies
Michael works on a range of projects including educating volunteers teacher-researchers from China to teach Chinese to monolingual English speaking Australian school students. Professor Singh has developed anti-racist pedagogies of intellectual equality and post-monolingual learning.
Professor Angela Hill PhD, Med Studies, Grad Dip Ed, BA
As Dean of the JCU Learning, Teaching and Student Engagement Directorate, Angela has responsibilities across all campuses of JCU, including Townsville, Cairns, JCU Singapore, Brisbane and satellite centres in rural and remote Australia.
Associate Professor Debra Miles PhD, MSW, BSW
Debra has been involved in social work education at JCU and Charles Darwin University since 1990, and has extensive teaching and curriculum development experience. Her recent work includes an analysis of the experience of Indigenous social work students and an exploration of mutually beneficial outcomes of international student exchanges. Since 2010 Debra has coordinated a number of student exchanges to India and Thailand and has been an invited speaker on the nature of international collaboration and international social work at a number of conferences in India and Thailand.
Dr Peter Jones BSW(Hons), MEd (Adult Learning), FHERDSA
Peter is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Human Services at JCU. He has been involved in social work education and curriculum development for over 15 years and is a two-time winner of an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (now the Office of Learning and Teaching) National Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) and has published widely in the areas of social work education, curriculum, pedagogy and internationalisation.
Associate Professor Abishek Bhati PhD, MBA, BA
Associate Professor Abhishek Singh Bhati (PhD, MBA, MBA, BA) is the Campus Dean of JCU Singapore. Abhishek contributes to JCU’s initiatives in Tropical Asia. His efforts guide the learning and teaching and academic governance of programs offered in JCU Singapore. In support of JCU’s strategic intent to create a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide, Abhishek is responsible for delivering graduates and building strategic partnerships that make a difference. Abhishek joined JCU in June 2008 and made significant contributions to the University is different roles such as Associate Dean and Acting Campus Dean. He was appointed as Campus Dean in April 2016. Abhishek sits on the management committee of Australian Alumni Singapore (AAS) and has led AAS’s successful membership drive in the past.
Dr Caroline Wong PhD, MBA, Grad CHEd, Grad Dip, Grad DipEd, BA
Dr Caroline Wong is a lecturer in business at JCU Singapore. She teaches a range of management subjects from first year to MBA students. Caroline has published widely in the area of creativity management and knowledge management by taking a multidisciplinary approach and this field of research extends into knowledge-based cities, creative cities and creative industries with special focus on Singapore. Her academic research also extends into the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education with focus on experiential learning, team work and entrepreneurship
Dr Jinghe Han PhD, MA, BA
Jinghe is a Senior Lecturer within the School of Education, Western Sydney University. She teaches a sociology subject (Diversity, Social Justice and Equity) and is an advisor in Academic Literacy for Master of Teaching students. She is a co-researcher in a ten-year program (Research Orientated School Engaged Teacher Education Program) and supervises a group of HDR students in this program.
Elise Howard MSocSc (Asia Pacific Governance and Development), BBus (International Trade)
Elise has managed the delivery of two large research projects: Local Global learning (www.localgloballearning.edu.au) and Going Places (www.goingplaces.edu.au). Her research interests focus on intercultural knowledge exchange and Elise recently presented a research thesis on culturally appropriate evaluation as part of her MSocSc.
