Teaching English as an Additional Language

Many students who study at JCU have a first language or dialect other than English. These students often have different learning needs to native English speakers.

The following videos were created to assist staff to understand the realities facing JCU students for whom English is not their first language, and provide some teaching strategies as a method for assisting these students within mainstream lectures and tutorials.

Understanding IELTS

This short video series introduces the IELTS test, the English language test which governs entry into Australian Tertiary institutions. Topics covered include entry requirements and implications for learning and teaching at JCU.
