LTSE Teaching@JCU Induction for New Academic Staff

Induction for New Academic Staff

Foundations of Learning and Teaching @JCU

Foundations of Learning and Teaching @JCU is a two-day program for all newly appointed full-time academic staff with teaching responsibilities, which is to be completed as part of employment probation.

The program focuses on essential information about the JCU learning and teaching context; the higher education regulatory environment and internal policy; student and library support services; assessment, moderation and feedback; technology-enabled learning strategies, including use of the learning management system; and evaluation of learning and teaching.

The workshops are delivered by multiple presenters in face-to-face mode on the Cairns and Townsville campuses. Staff from other locations please contact Learning,Teaching and Student Engagement to discuss your requirements.

2019 Workshop Dates

 Townsville and Cairns
WHENThe February inductions have been postponed until mid-year.

For those new to teaching and interested in developing their understanding, please consider enrolling in the MOOC, Contemporary Approaches to University Teaching.

If you have Subject Coordinator responsibilities, please consider registering for the Subject Coordinator: Essentials online modules. Visit the workshop registration page, and select Subject Coordinator: Essentials Online from the drop-down menu.

Any new full-time academic staff who have been unable to attend the program since commencing teaching duties, are welcome to attend the Sessional Staff Induction in SP1 (as we are not presenting the Foundations program). While this will provide a quick overview of requirements in the short term, it does not substitute for attendance in the full two-day program for probation purposes. Therefore staff are required to attend the next Foundations program in July 2019 in addition to the Sessional Staff Induction.

Registrations will be taken through My HR Online. Please follow the procedure outlined below, and select the Learning, Teaching & Student Engagement option for your campus.
