Borrowing for JCU staff and students

Staff and postgraduate students

You may borrow an unlimited number of standard loan items for 12 weeks at a time.

You may borrow short term loans (conditions apply).

Recalls: If an item you have on loan is placed on hold by another borrower you will receive a recall notice via email asking you to return the item. You are guaranteed a minimum loan of 21 days (or 7 days if recalled for the reserve collection).

Undergraduate and Honours students

You may borrow an unlimited number of standard loan items for three weeks at a time.

You may borrow short term loans (conditions apply).

General borrowing conditions

  • All Library materials must be returned in good condition on or before the due date or time indicated. Replacement charges will apply to lost or damaged materials. The Library does not accept items purchased elsewhere as replacements for lost or damaged materials.

  • Materials may be renewed unless required by another borrower.

  • Items on loan or located on another campus in Australia, may be reserved by placing a hold request.

  • An off campus service is available to Australian students (except JCU Brisbane) who live more than 50 kilometres from the Townsville or Cairns campuses.

  • For access to items in non-borrowable collections and articles in print journals held at another campus please use our Intercampus Service.

  • Library notices will be sent by email where available, including courtesy reminders, recalls, holds and financial notices. An SMS option is also available for Library notices.

  • Material not returned or renewed when due may be subject to Library fines and penalties.
