JCU publications made available to the public require an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) or an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN). The University Library issues the ISBNs and ISSNs for works which are published through the University.
If you require an ISBN or ISSN for a JCU publication please send an email to email@example.com.
An ISBN is a 13 digit number used by publishers, booksellers and libraries for ordering, listing and stock control purposes. An ISBN should be allocated to:
Printed books and pamphlets
Educational/instructional films and videos
Multimedia kits containing print materials
Electronic publications on physical carriers (CD-ROM etc.) or on the internet
An ISSN is an 8 digit number allocated to a serial. A serial is a publication intended to continue indefinitely like periodicals, newspapers, newsletters, memoirs and proceedings.
To comply with legal deposit statutory obligations once publication has occurred six copies should be sent to the Library, Information Resources Section. These will be distributed as follows:
National Library of Australia
State Library of Queensland
Queensland Parliamentary Library
University Library (2 copies)
Send an extra two copies if the publication is also to be deposited with the British Library and the Library of Congress, Washington.
