To install and create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to JCU on a computer running the Apple OSX Operating System please follow the steps below:
Open up your web browser and go to: https://tvl-portal.jcu.edu.au/
Login using your JCU email address and password.
Click on the Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent and choose Save File.
After the download is finished, double click on the downloaded file to open the package.
Note: If you receive a security warning, click Yes.
Once you have finished installing the software launch the GlobalProtect Agent and configure the connection with the following information:
Username: Enter your full JCU email address
Password: Enter your JCU password
Then click Apply.
The JCU VPN service will now connect. Close the GlobalProtect window and the JCU VPN service will continue to run.
To see the status of the connection, look for the GlobalProtect icon in the top right hand corner of the screen near the clock. Hover over the icon to see it's current connection status.
To disconnect from the JCU VPN, click the GlobalProtect icon in the top right hand corner of the screen and click Disconnect.
To connect to the JCU VPN Service again in the future simply click on the GlobalProtect icon located in the top right corner and select Connect.
NOTE: The default tvl-portal.jcu.edu.au gives you access to internal JCU servers and fileshares – to access external web services through JCU's network (rather than directly through your ISP) and for alternative portal options please see the table below.
