VPN for Mac OSX

To install and create a VPN connection to JCU on a computer running the Apple OSX Operating System please follow the steps below:

  1. Open up your web browser and go to: https://tvl-portal.jcu.edu.au/

  2. Login using your JCU email address and password

  3. Click on the Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent and choose Save File.

  4. After the download is finished, double click on the downloaded file to open the package. If you receive a security warning, click Yes.

  5. Once you have finished installing the software launch the GlobalProtect Agent and configure the connection with the following information:

Username: Enter your full JCU email address

Password: Enter your normal JCU password

Portal: tvl-portal.jcu.edu.au

Then click Apply.

NOTE> The default tvl-portal.jcu.edu.au gives you access to internal JCU servers and fileshares – to access external web services through JCU's network (rather than directly through your ISP) use Portal: tvl-portal-all.jcu.edu.au to resolves issues with web services that are IP restricted to the JCU network e.g. Table of Contents services and subscription services relying on 3rd party APIs.

  1. The VPN service will now connect.

  2. Close the GlobalProtect window and the JCU VPN service will continue to run.

  3. In the top right corner of your screen you will see the GlobalProtect icon showing Service connected or Connected.

To connect to the JCU VPN Service again in the future simply click on the GlobalProtect icon located in the top right corner and select Connect.
