Master of Business Administration
Tim Reynolds chose to study an MBA after enjoying his time studying an undergraduate degree in Engineering at JCU. As a CEO, Tim has a blend of responsibilities that include engineering, finance, accounting, human resource management, national and international marketing, information technology, negotiation and strategic business development. One of Tim’s primary goals is to ensure sustainability and growth in the company. The MBA content provided Tim with a comprehensive toolbox of knowledge and information that assist him daily in achieving these objectives at Rockfield Technologies.
The flexible study options offered in the MBA program such as intensive block mode subjects and podcasts are some of the program’s highlights, and especially appealed to Tim as his work and travel often conflicted with traditional lecture timetables. He also relished the student-to-student interactions provided by Learn JCU, “This is a novel approach to learning where students interact through the online ‘Discussion Board’ and can collaborate on research towards the subject goals.” The interaction encouraged by the MBA provides a fantastic networking opportunity allowing students to establish friendships and connections with people from different international and professional backgrounds.
Gaining an MBA has had many positive impacts on Tim’s professional life including the ability to improving efficiency, analyse business more deeply, measure the essential performance indicators and ultimately increase the enjoyment gained from business development.
Tim believes the MBA is particularly useful because “the subject material is current, relevant and the lecturers have made the material interesting through their own experience and relevant case studies.”
“Flexibility in assessment and research was one of the best things about the MBA program. The course allowed me to tailor the majority of assignments towards current real-time issues that were a focus within our company. This added value to my everyday business objectives and allowed the study objectives to relate directly with my real-time company requirements.”
