Shaun Solomon

Head of Indigenous Health

Role at MICRRH

Shaun was appointed Head of Indigenous Health at MICRRH in 2012.  His role as Head of Indigenous Health includes teaching, industry engagement and working with MICRRH academics across program areas to support the  inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health content and issues in the centres goals and activities.

He brings to this role senior project officer experience through his previous positions in the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (Department of Health and Ageing) and his cultural affiliation with the Birri and Ewamain peoples of Northern Queensland. 

Education

Shaun graduated from Sydney University with a Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion and is also a graduate and fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.  Shaun sits as a member of the Australian Health Promotion Association Indigenous Working Party – Queensland Branch and he is also the current Chairperson of the Mount Isa Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, Gidgee Healing.  His interest includes supporting Aboriginal Health Workers, chronic disease care and rural and remote health in outback Queensland.
